Exams

As a studio that values the growth and commitment of our dancers of all ages, it’s our pleasure to offer exams to students in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acrobatic Arts programs. We encourage all students who attend our Elementary Academy and above to enter for exams (school years 3 and above).

Exam participation is optional, with the exception of our AcroDance exams, which are mandatory for all of our acro classes. 

Students must be enrolled in a 'SKILLS' class to have the opportunity to participate in exams. 

While exams are not compulsory (with the exception of our acro exams), our syllabus/program for our ballet and jazz classes, Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD)- is a highly-recognised dance syllabus worldwide. If your child is considering continuing to dance vocationally as they grow older, we strongly recommend completing your exams annually. 

Our tap syllabus, Tap Mode, was developed by Mitchell Hicks, who trained and performed with Tap Dogs, the Australian tap company recognised worldwide. Their exam process is a great way to receive constructive and positive feedback from some of the most highly regarded tap names in Australia.

On a side note, our vast experience shows that formal exams present a unique opportunity for children to display and take pride in how hard they work and can progress further in their classes. Our exam students always find their exam experience to be uplifting, beneficial, and rewarding. As part of the exam preparation, exam dancers will also need to attend exam coaching sessions and, a mock exam day. These will be communicated to parents in term 1 each dance season.

The cost of exams varies by style and level and will be confirmed with you once we have received your exam agreement. We do not offer exams for children under 8 years of age except for our AcroDance exams. 

Exam Information

Ballet, Jazz & Tap exam information is sent out to all skills classes in February of each dance season. There is a deadline to commit to participating in dance exams for that year. Fees, dates, and other information is all communicated prior to any commitment to exams.

AcroDance Exams 

AcroDance exams are mandatory at TDC. The exam process ensures that the student is working at the highest technical level which will ensure their safety in performing acrobatic elements. 

Parents and students will have the choice to opt in for a single level exam per year or multiple levels. 

Single level exam: The student will work on one level of the syllabus e.g. Primary. Once they complete all the skills in the Primary level they will be able to attend the exam for the Primary level. They will then move on to work on the next level (Level 1). 

Multiple level exams: The student will work on two levels of the syllabus e.g. Primary and Level One. Once they complete all the skills on both levels they will do two exams at the exam session. They will then move on to work on the next two levels (Level 2 & Level 3). 

Choosing a multiple level exam option will allow the student to progress more quickly through the syllabus. This does not guarantee they will always to two exams each exam session as it does depend on their work ethic and achieving all the required skills they need.
